VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are the heart of Starlight. Volunteering at STRC is much more than a regular donation of time and service. It involves a willingness to become part of a larger community with a common goal. Without the collective effort and skills of these dedicated and hardworking individuals, STRC would simply not exist. We are grateful to all who give STRC their time, energy, and talent.

Volunteers work directly with the riders during lessons either by providing support as sidewalkers walking next to the riders throughout the lesson or as horse leaders helping to safely guide our horses during lessons. Our volunteer team helps us ensure that our horses are happy, healthy, and ready for lessons.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one day per week for a little over an hour. Lessons are an eight-week commitment and held Monday through Wednesday between the hours of 10:00 am and 1:30 pm. Consistency is critical to our riders and horses. 

Volunteer Requirements

• Minimum of 14 years of age. *See note below regarding junior volunteers.
• Attend a volunteer training. No horse experience required.
• Commit to a consistent volunteer schedule.
• Ability to walk and assist riders for up to an hour and lift up to 15 lbs. 
• Follow STRC safety procedures.

We DO NOT currently offer volunteer opportunities on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. 

* Junior volunteer (14-18 yrs.) opportunities take place in June & July.
